What made two boys get involved in civil society which later on changed the fate of the country? And how did they turn into leaders of a movement that brought hundreds of thousands of people to a single square?
This unique independent documentary about Mikuláš Minář and Benjamin Roll reveals the story of the founders of the Million Moments for Democracy. Let you get inspired by a story that shows how a single voice and an idea can cause an avalanche. It all started with a simple question: Can I have a moment of your time?
HOW DID IT ALL START?
In the spring of 2019, Amálie Kovářová filmed the preparation of the first demonstration of the Milion Chvilek association on Wenceslas Square. At the time, she had no idea that an inspiring story of a civil Czech society that had begun to fight back and fight for its independence and democracy was unfolding under her hands. A story that took place against the backdrop of demonstrations, a pandemic, and eventually elections. What did Czech society go through during all this? Did the friendship of the two founders, Nicholas and Ben, survive? And what did it cost us all?
What was originally intended to be a short film became a feature film. More than 300 hours of material had to be sifted through before the first version could even be edited. In 2023, the film was selected for the prestigious Doc.incubator workshop, which led to a collaboration with renowned French editor Aurelien Guegan. Now the film is in its final stages – colorization and sound post-production. The premiere is scheduled for the end of February 2025, followed by an impact campaign to activate society and bring hope that change is possible. We are confident that this film has the chance to both connect and inspire people.
The film is independent work of Amálie Kovářová and the Million Moments organisation itself had no influence on the final cut.
